Fasasi, relays, and field events power Saturday’s showing
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul track and field closed competition at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center with championship performances on the track, record-setting marks, and multiple event wins to close the weekend.
The day's top performance came from Daniel Fasasi in the men's 400m Championship, where he captured the meet title with a time of 46.62, marking a massive indoor personal best, a season best, and a performance that currently ranks 21st nationally in the NCAA. The performance came just 0.18 seconds off DePaul's school record of 46.44, set by Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Dave Dopek. Fasasi returned later in the afternoon to anchor the men's 4x400m relay, helping the Blue Demons secure another meet victory with a time of 3:09.67, a mark that currently sits 36th overall and 24th among university teams nationally.
This is a sign that the team continues to move in the right direction and that the training is working, said Dave Dopek. With our event groups on different training paths, it makes sense that some had a great meet while others continue preparing for their time to shine. Right now, the training and reps are most important as we look toward the indoor conference meet.
Additional strong performances followed on the track. Demetrius Rolle placed second in the men's 60m final, crossing in 6.78 after leading the prelims earlier in the day. In the men's mile, Mohamed Abdullahi recorded a personal-best 4:04.71 to finish third, adding another podium result for the Blue Demons.
On the women's side, Aisha Kazeem delivered an event-winning performance in the 60m hurdles, taking the final with a personal-best 8.54 after qualifying earlier in the day. In the flat sprints, Sade Miller placed second in the 60m final in 7.45, lowering her own school mark.
DePaul added multiple victories in the field events to round out the day. Isaiah Hopf claimed the men's triple jump title with a mark of 15.20m, while Jaiah Hopf captured the women's triple jump with a season-best 12.45m. In the vertical jumps, Katelyn Welsh cleared 3.68m in the pole vault, breaking her own school record for the fourth time this season.
