VILLANOVA, Pa. – DePaul women's soccer fell 3-0 at Villanova after relenting two goals in the first 10 minutes and one in the 66th minute. DePaul moved to 4-6-6 on the season and 1-4-3 in BIG EAST play.
"Today wasn't our best day," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "It's tough when you give up early goals and have to try to dig yourself out of it. We have to be ready for Saturday to honor our seniors and continue to push ourselves to end on a high note."How It Happened
Morgan Kotch opened scoring for Villanova in the 8th minute, earning a goal off a Wildcat free kick opportunity assisted by Dez Zapata. Two minutes later, Villanova struck again as Zapata netted a left-footed strike to propel the Wildcats to a 2-0 advantage in the 10th minute.
The Blue Demons found their offensive opportunity of the match in the 30th minute.
The multi-shot sequence unfolded when freshman forward Katelyn Haiser controlled the ball near the goal line, forcing Villanova goalkeeper Hannah Dickinson to help. Dickinson tipped the ball and sent it in front of goal, where senior midfielder Shayna da Silva struck. The senior's attempt was blocked, setting up a corner kick. Junior midfielder Dory Latenser blasted the shot from the subsequent set-piece, but Dickinson was there to quell the chance.
Despite trailing 2-0 at the break, the Blue Demons rattled off five shots in the last 20 minutes of the first half.
The Wildcats effectively sealed the match in the 66th minute, when a long throw-in from deep in DePaul's third ended with a goal from Amalia Cardo.
The match ended with a 16-5 shot advantage in favor of the Wildcats. Mason Hillery executed four saves between the posts.
