DePaul Softball Heads South for Fonseca Memorial Tournament

Blue Demons to face five opponents in Tampa Feb. 13-15
CHICAGO — DePaul softball looks to build on a perfect 6-0 start to the season when it travels to Tampa, Fla. for the Fonseca Memorial Tournament at University of South Florida this weekend, Feb. 13-15.
DePaul opens the weekend against Boston College at 8 a.m. CT, followed by a 10:30 a.m. matchup against Indiana State. The Blue Demons play just one game on Saturday with an 8 a.m. contest against Kansas. On Sunday, DePaul begins with an 8 a.m. tilt against Yale before closing the weekend against host USF at 10:35 a.m.

After a trip to the Sunshine State, the Blue Demons will turn around and head south again to Jacksonville, Ala. Feb. 20-22 for a set of five games against Garder-Webb, Jacksonville State and Northwestern State.

DEMON DOINGS
- DePaul went 6–0 on opening weekend at the DePaul Dome Tournament in Rosemont, Ill., earning its best start since the 2019 season.
- The Blue Demon offense has shown power early in the season by recording eight doubles, four triples, and four home runs in the first weekend.
- DePaul has three batters hitting over .500 in sophomore Jolie Adams, senior Lexi Houge, and junior Lydia Ettema.
- Sophomore pitcher Hannah Messer had a strong start to the season on both sides of the ball, going 3-0 with just one run allowed in the circle while also going 2-for-4 with a home run at the plate.
- The Blue Demons have been aggressive on the basepaths to start the season, stealing 16 bases during opening weekend.
- DePaul swept the BIG EAST Weekly Awards this week with Jolie Adams named Player of the Week, Hannah Messer earning Pitcher of the Week, and Addy Poe completing the sweep by taking Freshman of the Week.
- Boston College went 2–3 at the Clearwater Classic in the season's opening weekend.
- Sophomore Abby Ptak led the offense with six hits and a home run after making just seven starts last season, while junior pitcher Kelly Colleran returned after leading the Eagles with 89 strikeouts in 2025 and posting seven more last weekend.
- Beth Krysiak is in her first season as head coach of the Eagles.
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
- Indiana State went 2–3 at the Stetson Tournament and split games with BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall last weekend.
- Sophomore Madison Poulson and senior Morgan Goodrich lead the offense, both batting over .500 and combining for 17 hits last weekend.
- Head coach Windy Thees is in her second season leading the Sycamores.
SCOUTING KANSAS
- Kansas went 2–3 at the USF-Rawlings Invitational with both wins coming in five-inning victories against Bethune-Cookman and Illinois State.
- The Jayhawks offense has been productive with 11 doubles, three triples, and five home runs across 41 hits, led by seniors Aynslee Linduff and Campbell Bagshaw batting .462 and .429, respectively.
- Jennifer McFalls is in her ninth year as head coach.
SCOUTING YALE
- This weekend marks Yale's first tournament of the season after finishing 19–27 in 2025.
- The Bulldogs return junior Isabella Fortini and sophomore Ella Cross as key offensive contributors along with pitcher Emma Taylor, who led the team with a 4.86 ERA and 68 strikeouts.
- Laura Ricciardone is in her fourth season as head coach.
SCOUTING USF
- USF are 4–3 after picking up a pair of wins at the USF-Rawlings Invitational via run rule against Kansas and Bethune-Cookman followed by a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Tuesday afternoon.
- Junior Alex Wilkes and senior Kathy Garcia-Soto currently lead the offense with respective batting averages of .421 and .368 after both Bulls started all 61 games last season.
- Ken Eriksen is in his 29th year as head coach and has guided the Bulls to 17 of their 18 NCAA tournament appearances.
SERIES STUFF
- DePaul is undefeated in their two previous matchups against Boston College, with both the first and last meetings taking place in 2011.
- The Blue Demons will face Indiana State for the second time in program history, with the lone meeting being coming during the 1987 season, a Sycamores victory.
- DePaul is currently 4-3 against Kansas and has won three-straight against the Jayhawks, with the last meeting coming in 2014.
- DePaul is 2-0 against Yale, with both meetings coming in the 1988 season.
- The Blue Demons are 34-14 against USF with the most recent matchup being a 13-inning marathon in 2013.
