DePaul Set for Jax State Tournament This Weekend

Five-game slate awaits DePaul in Jacksonville, Alabama
CHICAGO — DePaul softball heads to Jacksonville, Ala., for the Jax State Tournament this weekend, Feb. 20–22.
The Blue Demons open the weekend Friday afternoon against Gardner-Webb at 2:30 p.m. CT before facing host Jacksonville State at 5 p.m. On Saturday, DePaul takes on Northwestern State at 12:30 p.m., followed by a second matchup with Jacksonville State at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Demons wrap up the weekend on Sunday with a 10 a.m. contest against Northwestern State.

- DePaul enters the weekend at 7-4 overall after going 1-4 at the Fonseca Memorial Tournament last weekend.
- Sophomore Chelsea Parker leads the Blue Demon offense with a .500 batting average and four home runs on the season. She earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition after going 10-for-15 at the plate last weekend and currently ranks fifth in the nation with 19 total hits.
- As a team, DePaul ranks second in the BIG EAST with a .333 batting average.
- Behind the plate, catcher Madelyn Wilson has been a defensive force with seven runners caught stealing this season, currently the second most in the nation.
- In the circle, sophomore Hannah Messer has continued her strong start, posting a 1.63 ERA across seven appearances and five starts.
- Gardner-Webb enters the weekend at 6-3 overall after posting a 3-1 record at the Red and Black Classic last weekend.
- The Runnin' Bulldogs have four hitters above the .400 mark, led by sophomore Lauren Spainhower hitting .500, followed by Alli Stidam at .429, Taylor Dreher at .423, and Reese Collier at .405.
- Gardner-Webb ranks seventh in the nation in double plays turned, recording eight across its first ten games.
- Bailey Wigness is in her fifth season as head coach of the Runnin' Bulldogs.
- Jacksonville State enters the tournament at 7-4 overall after going 3-2 at the South Alabama Invitational last weekend.
- The Gamecocks feature three hitters batting over .400 or above, led by Emma Elrod hitting .450, followed by Mikayla Devillie at .435 and Kailey Martin at .400.
- As a team, Jacksonville State ranks fourth in the nation in doubles with 30 on the season.
- Julie Boland is in her first season as head coach of the Gamecocks after spending 23 seasons as an assistant coach with the program.
- Northwestern State enters the weekend at 3-9 overall after going 2-3 at the Mardi Gras Mambo last weekend.
- The Demons are led offensively by sophomore utility Brynn Daniel, who is batting .419, while junior pitcher Mattison Buster anchors the circle with a 2.31 ERA across nine appearances.
- Jenny Fuller is in her second season at the helm of the Demons.
- DePaul holds a 1-0 record against Gardner-Webb, with the two programs meeting just once previously in 2005.
- This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between DePaul and Jacksonville State.
- The Blue Demons are tied 2-2 all-time against Northwestern State, with the most recent meeting being a DePaul win coming in 2016.
