Blue Demons Fall in Doubleheader Against North Florida

Morgan Rogers records two doubles in Saturday slate
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – DePaul softball fell in Saturday's doubleheader against North Florida at the Jacksonville Tournament.
Morgan Rogers led the Blue Demons offensively, going 3-for-5 with two doubles on the day. Chelsea Parker hit her fifth home run of the season in game two and added a base hit to notch her sixth multi-hit game this year.
In game one, Gwen Baker earned the start in the circle, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two earned runs. Kelly Greene followed with 2.0 innings of relief, and Kailey Selvage closed out the game with 1.0 inning. Game two saw Ava Gusel take the mound to start, tossing 1.1 innings before Bella Nigey relieved, covering the final 4.0 innings.
How It Happened
Game 1 – North Florida 5, DePaul 0
Rogers sparked the offense early with a leadoff double in the top of the first and advanced to third on a wild pitch but was thrown out at home as the inning ended.
DePaul (8-11) looked to strike again in the second. Addy Poe singled and Maya Wondaal added a base hit to put runners on the corners, though the Blue Demons were unable to capitalize.
Rogers recorded her second hit of the game in the third and again worked her way to third base but was left stranded. North Florida broke through in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run double to take a 2-0 lead.
Bibianna Rodriguez delivered a two-out single in the fourth, and Wondaal followed with a walk to move a runner into scoring position, but DePaul was unable to push a run across.
North Florida (18-5) added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0, which held as the final score.
Game 2 – North Florida 9, DePaul 1 (5 innings)
Rogers led off the game with her second double of the day, advancing to third before being thrown out at home on a double play to end the top of the first inning.
Parker opened the second with a solo shot to right center, putting the Blue Demons on the board 1-0. Poe followed with a single, but DePaul was unable to extend the inning. North Florida responded in the bottom half, using a bases-clearing double to take a 6-1 lead and added another run in the third to extend the advantage to 7-1.
In the fourth, Emersyn Coulter doubled to lead off the inning and Parker followed with a single, but the Blue Demons were unable to score. Brooke Cwick recorded a pinch-hit single to start the fifth inning, though DePaul was again held scoreless.
North Florida capped the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run, giving the Ospreys a 9-1 final score and ending the contest after six innings.

DePaul closes out the Jacksonville Tournament on Sunday, March 1, against Jacksonville. The Blue Demons will resume their suspended game from Friday at 8 a.m. CT, with the regularly scheduled Sunday game set to begin 30 minutes after the completion of the resumed contest.
