OMAHA, Neb. – Despite striking first, DePaul softball couldn't build on an early lead, falling 2-1 to Creighton in Friday's series opener.

In a game featuring just nine combined hits, DePaul totaled four as Morgan Rogers, Chelsea Parker and Zoe Levine each recorded a hit. Sophomore Jolie Adams accounted for the lone run with an RBI double in the top of the first inning, increasing her season total to 17 RBIs, third-most on the team.

Senior right-hander Bella Nigey went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits across six innings while striking out a pair of batters. With the decision, Nigey moved to 4-8 on the season.

How It Happened
DePaul (19-29, 7-15 BIG EAST) jumped out early as Alexis Houge worked a leadoff walk before Rogers reached on a base hit. Adams followed with a double up the middle to plate the game's first run and put two in scoring position. The Blue Demons, however, were unable to extend the inning and stranded a pair.

After two scoreless frames, Creighton capitalized in the third. A leadoff walk and base hit, paired with a sacrifice bunt, set up a two-run single through the left side that gave the Bluejays a 2-1 advantage.

DePaul threatened again in the sixth inning, placing two aboard behind Parker's single and a pinch-hit walk from Hannah Messer, but couldn't push the tying run across.

In the seventh, Camryn Eckhart drew a pinch-hit walk to bring the tying run on base, but Creighton held firm to secure the 2-1 win.
