Chris Leer joins the Blue Demons as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2021 season. Leer begins at DePaul after serving as an assistant coach for the Northwestern men's soccer program from 2019-21.
In Evanston, Leer assisted with all aspects of the Wildcats' men's soccer program. Leer helped the Wildcats to a 8-8-2 record and a fourth-place Big Ten finish in 2019. Six players were voted to All-Big Ten squads during Leer's two years with the program.
Prior to his time at Northwestern, Leer spent five seasons as an assistant at UC Davis, his alma mater. Leer also held an assistant coaching position with the Augsburg women's soccer program in Minneapolis from 2012-14, prior to securing his role back at UC Davis.
Leer earned his masters in education from the University of Minnesota in 2013 and graduated with a bachelors of arts degree from UC Davis in 2011.
As a player, Leer was a four-year letter winner for the Aggies from 2006-09, helping UC Davis to a pair of NCAA Division I Tournament berths in 2007 (First Round) and 2008 (Second Round) while earning All-Big West Honorable Mention honors as a senior. He finished his Aggies career with 13 goals and seven assists (33 points), tying for second on the team in goals (5) as a sophomore and finishing second on the team in both goals (4) and points (12) as a senior, starting all 19 matches.
His coaching career also includes positions with the Minnesota State and Region II Olympic Development Program, the Minneapolis United Soccer Club, and the Tonka United Soccer Club, as well as stops as the head boys junior varsity coach at San Ramon Valley High School in his hometown of Danville, Calif., and the Walnut Creek Soccer Club.
