Bleu Demons in France: Lauren Prochaska

Bonjour Blue Demon Fans!
Today, our group visited Mont Saint Michel in Normandy. Mont Saint Michel is a small village with a huge castle in the center of it. Our group was able to go inside the castle to get a better understanding of what life was like back in the 10th through the 19th century.
The views from the castle were breathtaking; there was nothing but open green and water surrounding it. We were able to walk around inside the castle and see the church, chapels, dining areas, and the architecture which was all so interesting.
We learned about the building of the town and the castle, the monks who lived in the castle, and about a woman who became famous in that town making omelets when she was 19 years old. A woman named Helen was our tour guide for the visit; she was very funny and knowledgeable on the history of Mont Saint Michel, which made the day so much more enjoyable.
We all walked up over 300 stairs to see all of the sights we saw today. After leaving the castle, we were able to walk through the town and visit the stores and restaurants. We saw an old school, the parish church, a cemetery for the residents, and houses that were built in the 10th century.
The overall experience of visiting Mont Saint Michel was incredibly beneficial because it is one of the wonders of the western world. It is fascinating to learn about how people back in the year 708 were able to create such a magnificent castle and church, and how these buildings are still standing today in 2014. It was also a good bonding experience to be able to explore the village with my teammates. It was definitely a memorable experience.
