Blue Demons Hit The Road
10/12/2018 9:49:00 AM | WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
DePaul volleyball will hit the road for contests against Seton Hall and St. John's.
CHICAGO - With the conclusion of its five-gave home stand, the DePaul volleyball team (5-13, 3-4 BIG EAST) will travel to Seton Hall for a 6:00 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 12 and will then venture over to St. John's for another 4:00 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 13.
On Wednesday, the Blue Demons won for the third time in four matches with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20) win over visiting Xavier and jumped two spots in conference rankings.
"With Wednesday's win, we jumped two spots in Conference," said head coach Marie Zidek. "We are now chasing St. John's who is ahead of us and also take on a scrappy Seton Hall team.
"Tonight's match versus Seton Hall should be another good test for our offense. They are very smart with their shot selection, and their attackers tip and shot just as much as the drive the ball hard. So, it will be a true test for how energized on defense we can come out. I'm really happy with where our offense is headed, so as long as we can dig to transition, it will be a very competitive match. The team is looking forward to heading out on the road. Sometimes it's nice to be on the road as there are less distractions, and you can actually be more rested because of that."
Last Time Versus Seton Hall
Last time around, DePaul dropped to Seton Hall in three sets. Dominika Kowalska totalled 21 attacks in the match and Katie Dolan took the most assists for the night, earning 25.Â
Scouting the Pirates
Seton Hall exhibits an overall record similar to DePaul's being 6-14, however, the Blue Demons have earned a more appealing record in BIG EAST play, with Seton Hall winning only one of seven 2018 conference contests. The Pirates garnered their lone BIG EAST win in five sets against Providence last weekend.
Coming off of the win, Seton Hall's Eden Dolezal was named BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Freshman of the Week. Dolezal led the Pirates in both digs and digs per set in last weekend's contests. The libero had a match-high 18 digs in only three sets at No. 10 Creighton on Friday. On Sunday in the win against Providence, Dolezal led all players with a career-high 26 digs.Â
Last Time Versus St. John's
Last time in 2017, the Blue Demons fell short in four sets against St. John's, 1-3 (16-25, 25-20, 14-25, 19-25).Â
Scouting the Red Storm
St. John's currently holds a strong 15-7 overall record on the season and has won four out of seven conference matches so far this season.Â
The Red Storm split the weekend 1-1 after defeating Providence before falling at Creighton. Amanda Sanabia was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts and moved into eighth place in program history in career digs, now garnering 1,139 digs on her career.Â
