McCarthy tied for ninth while Campbell Wolf posts a 67 in second round

MADISON, Ill. – DePaul sophomore Joe McCarthy is tied for ninth after 36 holes to lead the Blue Demons on day one of the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational. The team sits in sixth among the 17 teams competing at Gateway National Golf Links.

McCarthy opened his tournament with a 71 (E) on Monday morning before carding a 70 (-1) in the second round. His two-round score of 141 (-1) puts him in a three-way tie for ninth place and five shots off the lead.

Campbell Wolf is tied for 18th and Charlie Spencer-White is in a group in 31st place. Wolf holds a total score of 144 (+2) after a 77 (+6) in the morning before blistering the course with a 67 (-4) in the second round. Only eight players in the entire field posted a score of 67 or better over the first two rounds on Monday. Playing in his first event of the season, Spencer-White recorded rounds of 72 (+1) and 75 (+4) to finish the day with a total of 147 (+5).

Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Bobby Thomas rounded out play for the Blue Demons with Gatmaytan tied for 53nd and Thomas in a tie for 86th place. Gatmaytan stands at 150 (+8) after rounds of 73 (+2) and 77 (+6) while Thomas carded an 83 (+12) in the first round before posting an impressive turnaround with a 73 (+2) on the second circuit. Thomas holds a tournament score of 156 (+14) entering Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Tuesday's final round is set for an 8:15 a.m. start at Gateway National with host SIU-Edwardsville atop the team leaderboard. SIUE's team score of 566 (-2) gives them a three-shot lead over Omaha while DePaul is sixth with a score of 578 (+10). SIUE's Kyle Slattery holds a three-shot lead on the individual leaderboard with a total of 136 (-6).
