CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer fell 4-2 to intercity rival UIC on Tuesday evening in a chippy match on Flames Field. DePaul drops to 3-3 on the season.
The Flames (5-1) took an early lead in the 17th minute when Bar Azut fired a powerful shot at DePaul keeper Drew Nuelle that slipped past him and rolled into the net.
In the 29th minute, DePaul's Jacob Seeto would be shown a red card and the Blue Demons would play with 10 for the remainder of the match. That was the first, but sole red, of five cards shown to DePaul throughout the match.
DePaul would hold UIC to the one goal through the first half and turned up the heat in the second. Jake Fuderer scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute putting the Blue Demons back in the game. However, the Flames were too much to handle for the Blue Demons in the second half.
A quick back-to-back scoring run from the Flames saw Hazut tally his second goal of the night in the 68th minute and Bukola Abdulwahab score in the 69th minute. Roberto Alonzo would add another insurance goal in the 83rd minute.
DePaul was outshot by UIC 24-5 and outnumbered in corner kicks, 11-1. Keeper Nuelle faced ten total shots, making six saves on the night.
