CHICAGO - DePaul women's soccer took down the No. 11 Kansas Jayhawks 1-0 on Friday afternoon in the first game of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup at Folk Field. The win broke KU's four-game undefeated streak and marks DePaul's first win over a ranked team since 2016 with a 4-1 defeat of then- No. 7 Georgetown.
DePaul (2-3-0) took the lead offensively in the first half, putting up the first two shots on goal. The rest of the half was back and forth offensively, with Kansas (4-1-0) eventually leading the shot count 7-2 heading into halftime. DePaul keeper Mollie Eriksson denied Mandi Duggan with 15 seconds remaining in the first half to send both teams into halftime scoreless.
The Blue Demons came out with a game plan in the second half and Jade Eriksen-Russo would act on it within the first 30 seconds, firing a shot straight to the right past Jayhawk keeper Sarah Peters who dove to the left.
It was the second goal the Jayhawks have allowed this entire season.
KU would try and execute in the final 45 minutes but was unable to finish any of their chances, despite out-shooting the Blue Demons 20-5.
Erikkson would notch three more saves and Sydney Parker, Kristin Boos, Brooke Weitzel and Megan Malecha would all fire off a shot apiece.
