Men's Tennis Nets First BIG EAST Win

Blue Demons down Creighton 6-1 Saturday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons were firing on all cylinders Saturday night at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
The men's tennis team knocked off Creighton 6-1 in its first BIG EAST match of the season, improving to 2-1 overall while Creighton fell to 1-2.
DePaul jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Casati and Boris Spanjaard defeated the Bluejays' Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff 6-2.
Luuk Wassenaar and Lars Peder Minsaas clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 decision over Mac Mease and Shin Inoue. Fran and Vito Tonejc made it three-for-three knocking off Jose Oscar Diaz and Matthew Lanahan 7-5.
"The guys played great doubles to give us the momentum and the first point," said coach Matt Brothers.
Wassenaar increased DePaul's lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Armando Gandini at No. 5 singles. Spanjaard followed suit beating Inoue 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4.
The match clincher belonged to Tripp Tuff with his hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win against Hoff at No. 6 singles.
Brown put Creighton on the board with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 decision over Casati at No. 1 singles. DePaul's lead increased to 5-1 after Vito Tonejc's 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2.
In the final match of the night, Fran Tonejc came away with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Diaz at No. 3 singles.
"We fought really hard in singles to come up with the 6-1 victory," Brothers said. "I'm very proud of the work they put in this week and the reward they got to reap tonight."
DePaul is back in action Friday traveling to Illinois State.
