Blue Demons take down Ramblers 14-6 to go 2-0 on the day

Rosemont, Ill. – DePaul recorded its second win in as many games on Saturday afternoon with a 14-6 decision over Loyola Chicago in five innings of action.

The Ramblers started off with their own offensive production in the top of the first with a pair of homers to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

DePaul (3-1) quickly responded and put up six runs on six hits to set the tone for the rest of the contest. Angela Scalzitti doubled to left before Gabby O'Riley posted a double to put the Blue Demons on the board for the first time. Kate Polucha slapped a single to center to load the bases before Tori Meyer's double brought two more runs across the plate. Brooke Johnson blasted a three-RBI home run to right to clear the bases and widen the advantage to 6-3.

The Blue Demons tacked on three more runs in the second behind two walks when the bases were loaded. Nicole Sullivan grounded out to drive Polucha home and put DePaul up 9-3.

Stout base running by Scalzitti allowed DePaul to add a run in the fourth with the senior reaching base on a single and advancing on a ground out followed by a wild pitch.

Four runs on five hits in the fifth inning put the Blue Demons over the top and pushed the margin to nine.

Loyola (0-3) tallied one run in the top of the fifth behind four walks and a stolen base, but it wasn't enough to keep the game alive.

Polucha tallied a team-high four hits on the game, while Johnson recorded three RBI to lead the way.

Julyana Gomez earned her first career win in the circle and went 4.1 innings before Erin Hocker provided relief in the fifth.
