Sunday's 6-1 success at Chicago State sixth victory in last seven matches
HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Coach Matt Brothers and his tennis team continued to gain momentum on Sunday in south suburban Homewood.
The Blue Demons extended their winning streak to four after a 6-1 victory against Chicago State at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club.
DePaul (7-2) racked up its sixth victory in the last seven matches beginning with the doubles point behind the tandems of Boris Spanjaard/Christopher Casati and Tripp Tuff/Fran Tonejc.
The match score was 2-0 after Tuff's straight-set 6-2, 6-3 victory over Pedja Kolaric at No. 5 singles. At No. 2, Spanjaard scored a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Javier Sanchez.
Chicago State (2-8) got on the board winning at No. 6 singles, but Luuk Wassenaar responded with a match-clinching 7-5, 6-2 win over Jakum Zamorski at No. 4 singles.
Fran Tonejc upped the match score to 5-1 after defeating Jesus Perez (CSU) 4-6, 6-1, 2-2 (retired) at No. 3 singles. That was Tonejc's fourth consecutive singles win.
Lining up in the No. 1 slot, Casati delivered a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 decision over Chicago State's best Jacov Suler and extended his singles winning streak to four.
The Band of Brothers goes for five in a row and its seventh win in the last eight matches on Saturday at crosstown rival UIC (0-7). DePaul swept the Flames 7-0 on Feb. 5 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
