Senior Gwen Walker tallies first-career goal

INDIANAPOLIS – DePaul women's soccer fell to Butler in the BIG EAST opener, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon. After the Bulldogs stormed out to a 3-0 first-half lead, the Blue Demons were able to generate more chances in the second half but the comeback effort fell short at Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.

Butler took control early on and put the pressure on DePaul's back half from the opening kick. Butler's Alli Leonard was able to find the back of the net twice within the game's first 13 minutes, giving the Bulldogs a commanding lead early on.

After halftime, the Blue Demons found more of a rhythm on the offensive end, firing off nine second-half shots. DePaul was able to get on the board when senior midfielder Gwen Walker curled a corner kick into the Bulldog goalie box in the 75th minute. The well-placed corner found its way into the back of the net and the Lake Forest, Ill. native was credited with her first goal of her career.

The Blue Demons continued to press forward in the game's final minutes but DePaul was unable to push across any additional scores. Sophomore forward Kristin Boos totaled a match-high three shots.

UP NEXT
The Blue Demons return to Lincoln Park for the 2020-21 home opener on Sunday, March 7 to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles. Marquette holds a 2-0-0 record so far this spring and has outscored opponents 8-2 in its regular season matches. The Golden Eagles' matchup with the Blue Demons will be their first conference match of the season.
