DePaul Defeats Bradley 4-1 Behind Dalgarn’s Career Outing

Krista Dalgarn records a career-high 11 strikeouts
PEORIA, Ill. – DePaul softball earned a 4-1 victory over Bradley in the first of two games on Monday afternoon at Petersen Hotels Field.
Krista Dalgarn threw a career-high 11 strikeouts and held the Braves without a hit in the final four innings to earn the victory and move to 4-1 on the season in the circle.
The first inning saw the Blue Demons jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Angela Scalzitti drew a leadoff walk before Maranda Gutierrez brought her across the plate with an RBI single to right center.
Bradley (2-6) tied the score at one in the bottom half of the first inning. The Braves drew a walk and advanced to third on a Dalgarn wild pitch. Keeler van Breusegen recorded an RBI single to bring the runner home and tie the ball game at 1-1.
DePaul (7-6) put up three more runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead. O'Riley drew a leadoff walk before Grace Frazier singled to second base to advance pinch runner Erin Hocker to third. Pearl Barroso recorded a single down the right field line to bring Hocker across. At the next at bat, Skylor Hilger singled to left field advancing Barroso. At the top of the order, Scalzitti grounded to first to advance the runners before Gutierrez tapped a single into the infield and scored Barroso and Hilger.
The third inning saw the Braves load the bases on two hits and a walk, but the DePaul got out of the jam unscathed.
Neither squad recorded a hit or scored a run after the third inning.
DePaul and Bradley will face off in game two of the doubleheader at approximately 2:45 p.m.
