Softball Welcomes Connecticut to Cacciatore Stadium for Weekend Series

Blue Demons and Huskies meet for the first time since 2014
CHICAGO – DePaul returns home to Cacciatore Stadium for the first time since May of 2019 when Connecticut visits Lincoln Park for a BIG EAST series, April 2-3.
The Blue Demons and Huskies will play two on Friday, April 2 with first pitch of game one beginning at 12 p.m. CT and game two following 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest. Saturday will feature the series finale at 11 a.m.

DePaul at a Glance: DePaul brings an 11-7 record into the weekend and are winners of their last four contests. The Blue Demons are 8-7 in non-conference action and 3-0 in BIG EAST play after a series sweep of St John's, March 13-14. DePaul boasts balanced offensive production as the Blue Demons lead the BIG EAST in scoring at 5.56 runs per game while also ranking first in the league in on-base percentage at a .393 clip. Five Blue Demons have totaled at least 15 hits with Jessica Cothern and Angela Scalzitti sharing a team-high, 19. Scalzitti has pushed for extra bases as the senior ranks first in the BIG EAST with seven doubles and three triples on the season. Cothern leads the way with a .373 batting average and .448 on-base percentage while Kate Polucha boasts a team-high 15 RBI's and five home runs. holds a 6-1 record on the season and has registered 47 strikeouts in 50.2 innings of work. Dalgarn and Halvorson have seen the bulk of the work in the circle with 101 combined innings of work. Dalgarn's seven wins on the season is good for second in the BIG EAST.
Scouting Connecticut: Connecticut enters the weekend series with a 13-10 overall record and 5-1 mark in league action. Last weekend, the Huskies swept a weekend series against Butler after scoring a combined 11 runs to the Bulldogs three. Freshman pitcher Payton Kinney leads the way for UConn with a BIG EAST leading eight victories and 89 strikeouts on the season. Kinney is holding opponents to just a .193 batting average through 18 appearances in the circle. Reese Guevarra and Jana Sanden have proven to be threats behind the plates with 30 and 23 hits, respectively. Sanden ranks third in the BIG EAST in RBI's with 19.
Series Stuff: The Blue Demons hold the all-time series lead over the Huskies 16-4. The two programs last met in February of 2014 when DePaul recorded an 8-0 victory in five innings in Clearwater, Fla.
Last Time Out: DePaul is coming off of a 7-5 midweek victory at Loyola on Wednesday afternoon. After pausing team activities due to COVID-19 protocols, the Blue Demons returned to competition for the first time in 17 days and picked up their fourth win in a row at Loyola Softball Park. Seven different Blue Demons tallied a hit while Gabby O'Riley led the way with three. The first inning saw Polucha launch her team-high fifth home run of the year to get things started as DePaul scored in the first five innings of the contest. Dalgarn improved her record in the circle to 7-1 on the season while Halvorson recorded the save.
