Blue Demons follow up with Sunday road match against Xavier
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis is shooting for a weekend sweep beginning with Friday's match at the University of Chicago.
Two days after the 1 p.m. match at the Stagg Tennis Courts in Hyde Park, the Blue Demons (9-6) travel to Cincinnati to face BIG EAST rival Xavier (2-8).
If the Sunday match is outdoors at the Jim and Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility, it will begin at 12 noon. Should the match be moved indoors, first serve is set for 3 p.m.
After returning from a spring break trip through Tennessee facing top-notch competition including Oracle ITA Coaches Poll No. 44 Middle Tennessee State, the Blue Demons have split their last two matches. They prevailed over BIG EAST adversary Butler 4-3 before falling 7-0 to No. 42 Notre Dame.
Vito Tonejc, who was named Oracle ITA National Player of the Week earlier this season, heads into the weekend with a sparkling 10-3 singles record---going 8-3 in the demanding No. 1 position.
Splitting his matches between the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, Tripp Tuff has posted a 9-6 mark.
The No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Casati and Boris Spanjaard is 9-3 in the dual-match season while Vito Tonejc and Luuk Wassenaar are 3-2.
U. of Chicago (3-0) began its season last Saturday and has won its first three matches. The Maroons swept North Central in a doubleheader and edged Chicago State.
Xavier has dropped its last five matches including a 6-1 loss on Wednesday to Saint Louis. That losing streak also includes setbacks to Ball State, Dayton and twice at Cleveland State.
