Blue Demons begin play Friday in three-day Bobby Bayliss Invitational
CHICAGO – Coach Matt Brothers will have a full complement of tennis players to deploy at this weekend's Bobby Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
Last weekend, the Blue Demons were split on two fronts with nationally ranked Vito Tonejc and highly regarded freshman Marino Jakic approved to compete at the prestigious Milwaukee Tennis Classic while the rest of their teammates played in the Purdue Fall Invite.
Tonejc and Jakic both held their own against a deep and talented field that included standouts from programs such as Arizona, Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Navy, Harvard and VCU among others.
Both Blue Demons went 2-2 in singles with Tonejc advancing to the consolation semifinals and Jakic the consolation quarterfinals.
Adding Tonejc and Jakic to the DePaul lineup will bolster chances for success beginning Friday at the Courtney Tennis Center.
The Bayliss field in this three-day event will feature the host Fighting Irish, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Marquette, Western Michigan, Cleveland State and the Blue Demons.
