DePaul Conquers the Pirates 2-0
CHICAGO, Ill – DePaul Women's soccer secured their first BIG EAST conference win against the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday. Sophomore forwards, Katie Godden and Susie Soderstrom contributed the two goals for DePaul's 2-0 victory. Goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson kept the Pirate's offensive efforts at bay with her second shutout game of the season.
After the Senior Day celebrations concluded, the battle between DePaul and Seton Hall commenced. The two teams rushed to get on the board, generating shots back and forth. Defenders, Sydney Parker, Grace Phillpotts, and Olivia Beam fought hard to keep DePaul's box clear of any Pirates. In the 17th minute DePaul was awarded a penalty kick. Godden stepped up the job and sank a clean shot into the top right of Seton Hall's goal. The Pirates began to attack DePaul's defense in an attempt to connect. However, their efforts were no match for Eriksson who earned her second shutout of the season with seven saves. The Blue Demons maintained the 1-0 lead going into the second half.
At the start of the second 45 minutes, the two BIG EAST programs continued to battle it out on the field. Forward Kristin Boos and Defender Maria Nordness put up shots but could not find the back of the net. Ebba Costow followed with another attempt but fell short. In the 79th minute Freya Jupp sent a cross to Susie Soderstrom in Seton Hall's attacking third. Soderstrom seized the opportunity and put one past the Pirates' goalkeeper extending DePaul's lead 2-0. Seton Hall tried to respond before the 90th minute but were unsuccessful in the end.
