
DePaul and Creighton Fight to Draw

Teams tie at one apiece
OMAHA, Neb. – DePaul women's soccer fought to a 1-1 draw with Creighton on Thursday night. Beth Smyth put the Blue Demons on the board in the first half with a header off a corner kick by Grace Phillpotts. Creighton was able to respond in the second half to tie the match.Â

Creighton, who was ranked fourth in the BIG EAST conference coming into the match, came out strong in the first half. The Bluejays applied pressure on DePaul's defensive line but were unable to make any connections. Creighton put up five shots in the first 45 minutes, but goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson would not let one past. The two teams continued to go back and forth until the 37th minute. The Blue Demons were awarded a corner kick and Phillpotts stepped up to the challenge. The defender found Smyth who headed the ball into Creighton's net to take the lead.Â

In the second half, Creighton rushed the Blue Demon's attacking third, but were met with Sydney Parker, Olivia Beam and Maria Nordness, DePaul's unstoppable back line. Ebba Costow proved to be a great threat to the Bluejays, regaining possession of the ball for the Blue Demons any chance she got. Creighton continued the fight through the last ten minutes and made a connection to tie the game. The Bluejays attempted to break the tie in the 87th minute but an incredible save by Eriksson secured the draw for the Blue Demons. Â
