
DePaul Travels to UIC for Midweek Matchup

Blue Demons and Flames meet at 4 p.m. on ESPN+
CHICAGO — DePaul will make the short trip to UIC on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek contest with the Flames with first pitch set to get underway at 4 p.m. from Flames Field.

DePaul (13-18, 3-6 BIG EAST) is coming off a series victory over conference preseason favorite Villanova last weekend, taking two out of three games. The Blue Demons have seen contributions from up and down the lineup all season long. Freshman Anna Wohlers has led the charge as of late, batting .600 with six hits and four RBI against the Wildcats, en route to her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week nod and her first Player of the Week distinction. Junior first baseman Brooke Johnson leads the squad in average (.363), hits (33), RBI (25) and home runs (seven) while collecting a team-best 63 bases. Maranda Gutierrez, Kate Polucha, Nicole Sullivan and Tori Meyer provide the pop with each tallying 20 or more hits on the season and the quartet combining for over half of the teams RBI. Pitchers Sarah Lehman and Erin Hocker have tossed 68.2 and 62.2 innings respecitvely in the circle for the Blue Demons. Hocker has made 15 appearances and owns a staff-best 3.57 ERA while Lehman has made 17 appearances and registered 54 strikeouts.
UIC is 6-19 on the season and 3-7 in conference play. The Flames claimed a series victory last weekend with a pair of victories over Northern Kentucky. Junior Maica Ingles leads the Flames behind the plate with a .351 average and 27 hits on the season. Senior Tara McElligott provides the power for UIC with a team-best 16 RBI and six home runs. In the circle, Christina Toniolo leads the way with 77.2 innings pitched in 19 appearances. Toniolo paces the staff with 47 strikeouts. Lynn Curlyo is in her sixth season as head coach of the Flames.
DePaul holds the all-time series record 57-33 and have won four in a row in the series including a series sweep in 2021 at Cacciatore Stadium.
The Blue Demons will resume BIG EAST play on Friday, April 8 for the first of a three-game set at Seton Hall.
