The Blue Demons fall to the Hoyas
WASHINGTON, D.C. – DePaul women's soccer was held off by No. 11 Georgetown 1-0, Sunday afternoon. DePaul (4-5-1, 0-3-0 BIG EAST) held Georgetown at bay for the majority of the contest before the Hoyas (7-1-4, 3-0-1 BIG EAST) managed a late connection in the 73rd minute.Â
ÂIn the first half, DePaul showed exceptional defense against Georgetown. Goalkeeper Elena Milam, with the assist of DePaul's back four defenders, Kristin Schwartz, Schuyler Riese, Lina Dantes and Grace Menser limited Georgetown's clean looks at goal. The Hoyas only managed two shots on target before both teams went into the second half scoreless.
ÂIn the second 45 minutes, the Blue Demons continued to be disciplined against Georgetown's set pieces and corner kicks. DePaul managed to keep the Hoyas out of the net until the 73rd minute, when Georgetown broke through the back line and got on the board to take the lead 1-0.Â
ÂThe Blue Demons laid on the pressure looking for an answer to the Hoyas' connection. With 10 seconds remaining, DePaul earned a corner kick opportunity in the hopes of generating an equalizer but fell short.Â
ÂUP NEXT: The Blue Demons play host to Providence, Thursday, Oct. 5 for a 3 p.m. CT matchup.Â
