Noting the Blue Demons
- DePaul welcomed eight newcomers to Chicago in the offseason including four transfer students and four true freshmen.
- The Blue Demons have one of the most veteran rosters in the country heading into the 2023-24 season, with six student-athletes (Katlyn Gilbert, Brynn Masikewich, Jade Edwards, Anaya Peoples, Michele Sidor, and Jorie Allen) entering at least their fifth season on a collegiate basketball roster.
- Facing another tough schedule, DePaul will meet at least 12 teams that finished top-100 in the 2022-23 season end's NET rankings including Elite Eight participants Miami and Louisville in addition to national runner-up Iowa in a charity exhibition.
- Graduate guard Anaya Peoples is back for her fifth season after finishing 2022-23 third on the team in scoring (9.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.4 rpg) as well as second in assists (2.7 apg).
- Forward Jorie Allen will look to lead the post group after making 25 starts and averaging 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds last season.
- A season ago, DePaul ranked top-25 nationally in both scoring offense (76.6 ppg) and assists (16.5 apg).
- Doug Bruno enters his 38th season leading the women's basketball program at his alma mater, earning 774 victories through his Hall of Fame tenure. Bruno's win total ranks seventh amongst active Division I women's coaches.
- For the second-straight season the Blue Demons will play in a preseason exhibition game for charity after traveling to Texas last October to face the Longhorns in a game to benefit the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation.
- Iowa enters the 2023-24 campaign after making a run to the National Championship game in April.
- The Hawkeyes won 31 games and won its third Big Ten Tournament title since 2019.
- Caitlin Clark returns for her senior campaign in Iowa City after earning consensus National Player of the Year honors in 2022-23. As a junior, Clark averaged 27.8 points per game while dishing out 327 assists and recording five triple doubles.
- Iowa brings back veterans Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis for their fifth seasons, while sophomore forward Hannah Stuelke is expected to play a bigger role after the Hawkeyes lost All-American center Monika Czinano to graduation.
- Head coach Lisa Bluder is in her 24th season at the helm of the Iowa program.
- The two sides have met just a handful of times with Iowa leading the series, 5-0.
- Last time the programs squared off in Iowa City was in the NCAA Round of 32 in March of 1996, a 72-71 Hawkeyes victory.
- After an ultra-competitive closed scrimmage in Chicago last October, head coaches Lisa Bluder and Doug Bruno shared the sentiment that it was a shame that no one was able to see the back-and-forth affair.
- Following the end of the 2022-23 campaign, Bluder called Bruno and threw out the idea of an outdoor exhibition at Kinnick Stadium. Bruno needed no convincing and offered DePaul's full support for the event.
