Softball Kicks Off Conference Play at Butler

Blue Demons meet Bulldogs for pair of games on Saturday, single game on Sunday
CHICAGO – DePaul softball is set to face their first BIG EAST opponent of the season, visiting Butler to play a two-day, three-game series March 11-12 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
The two teams will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 11 with game one scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and game two to follow at 1 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 12 will see the Blue Demons meet the Bulldogs for the series finale beginning at 11 a.m. Live stats are available for all three games at depaul.statbroadcast.com.
 
The Blue Demons head into the weekend series with an 8-8 record through 16 non-conference games, most recently going 2-1 at the Palmer Park Clash in Charlottesville, Va. with wins over Saint Francis and Fairfield while falling to Virginia in six innings.
 
Brooke Johnson and Anna Wohlers have led the way for the Blue Demons behind the dish, batting .362 while combining for 24 RBI. Wohlers has totaled a team-best five home runs while Johnson has left the yard on four occasions. Tori Meyer has driven in nine runs on three-extra base hits while stealing a team-high four bases.
 
In the circle, Brenna Smith and Bella Nigey have each earned five starts with Smith owning a 4.24 ERA to go with a pair of wins and Nigey totaling a staff-best four wins on 26 strikeouts.
 
Butler is 4-18 on the season after being selected to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Bulldogs have played a rugged schedule picking up wins over Marshall, Louisiana Monroe, Cleveland State and Loyola Chicago. Monigue Hoosen paces the offense with a team-best nine RBI on five home runs. Mackenzie Griman owns a staff-best 4.35 ERA to go along with 22 strikeouts.
 
DePaul holds a 19-9 all-time edge against Butler while the Bulldogs took two of three games in the series last season in Chicago.
