Bulldog bats too much for the Blue Demons

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – DePaul couldn't tame the Bulldog bats on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Demons dropped the series finale 13-5 in six innings.

Butler (7-18, 3-0 BIG EAST) totaled 16 hits and batted a season-high .552 while DePaul mustered up six hits and recorded an average of .250.

Addison Talbot, Alexis Houge, Anna Wohlers and Nicole Sullivan all drove in a run apiece while Brooke Johnson and Grace Frazier added base hits.

All four active pitchers saw time in the circle for DePaul with Abbey Pochie earning the start and allowing four runs on four hits before Katey Pierce relieved for two-thirds of an inning. Bella Nigey threw three and a third inning allowing six earned runs on nine hits and Brenna Smith closed out the outing. Pierce was credited with the loss and moved to 1-1 on the season.

How it Happened
DePaul (8-11, 0-3) started the scoring early after a one-out walk scored on a Wohlers double to right field to give the Blue Demons a 1-0 first inning lead.

The Bulldogs responded with three hits and a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to claim a 2-1 lead.

In the second inning, Frazier singled to left and advanced on a fielding error in the outfield before scoring on a Talbot RBI double. Houge then reached on a infield error, scoring Talbot and putting the Blue Demons back in front 3-2 after one and a half.

Three runs and three hits came for the Bulldogs in the second inning as the led changed hands once again, now in favor of the hosts 5-3.

Sullivan hit her third home run of the season in the third to bring DePaul within one before Butler responded with a solo shot of their own to take a 6-4 advantage into the fourth.

Houge drove in a run in the top of the fourth, but the Bulldogs tacked on three runs with a three-run homer and later put up four in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
