DePaul Welcomes Providence to Lincoln Park for BIG EAST Series

Blue Demons and Friars face off in three-game series at Cacciatore Stadium
CHICAGO – DePaul returns to Cacciatore Stadium this weekend to host it's first conference series of the season when Providence visits Lincoln Park for a three-game slate. Live coverage can be found on FloSoftball and tickets to catch all of the action are available at DePaulBlueDemons.com/tickets.

DePaul looks to get back to its winning ways after a 20-1 setback at the hands of No. 22 Northwestern in Tuesday's home opener. The Blue Demons are 9-17 on the season and 1-5 in BIG EAST competition through a pair of series with Butler and St. John's.

Anna Wohlers and Brooke Johnson have proved to be the bright spots for DePaul at the plate, batting .384 and .342, respectively. Wohlers has sent eight balls out of the park and driven in 24 runs while Johnson has 13 RBIs on 27 hits including four homers.

Against the Wildcats, Baylee Cosgrove drove in the lone run on an infield base hit.

Freshman right-hander Bella Nigey has seen the bulk of the innings in the circle, making 16 appearances and claiming five wins while throwing a staff-best 45 strikeouts. Purdue transfer Brenna Smith has earned a pair of wins in 52.1 innings while Katey Pierce and Abbey Pochie have combined for 24.1 innings of work.

The Friars are 9-18 on the season including a 2-7 mark against BIG EAST teams after dropping a 4-1 decision to local foe Rhode Island on Wednesday. Last weekend, Providence was swept by conference unbeaten Butler at home. Junior infielder Jacque Harrington has ignited the bats with a team-best 16 RBIs on 29 hits including five home runs. Sophomore Rachael Petrarca has driven in 13 runs and is batting .304 in 69 at bats.

In the circle, Elysia Cunnigan owns a staff-best 3.78 ERA through eight appearances and 29.2 innings pitched. Freshman Riley Quirk has seen 39 innings and owns a 1-3 record in four starts.

The Blue Demons have dominated the all-time series with the Friars, 28-4. A season ago, DePaul took two of three meetings in Providence including a 5-4 10-inning victory in the series finale to secure their spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
