Blue Demons bats fall cold in midweek matchup in Madison
MADISON, Wis. – An early deficit proved to be too much for DePaul to handle on Tuesday afternoon as the Blue Demons dropped a 11-1 decision at Wisconsin in five innings.
The Badgers (21-10) plated five runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Blue Demon bats couldn't keep pace, mustering just four hits to Wisconsin's 11. Â
Junior designated player Nicole Sullivan was responsible for the Blue Demons lone run of the afternoon with an RBI-double to right field in the third inning. Sullivan was two-for-three on the day.
Brooke Johnson and Payton Viles also notched base hits.
Brenna Smith went three and a third innings allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. Katey Pierce entered in relief in the top of the fifth and retired a pair of batters and surrendered just one hit.
How it Happened
The top of the first saw Johnson and Sullivan reach on a pair of base hits, but nothing more developed for the Blue Demons behind the dish.
Â
In the home half of the frame, the Badgers plated five runs on five hits including a three-run homer.
Â
Wisconsin extended their lead to 7-0 with a two-run long ball in the second inning.
