Blue Demons bats fall cold in midweek matchup in Madison
MADISON, Wis. – An early deficit proved to be too much for DePaul to handle on Tuesday afternoon as the Blue Demons dropped a 11-1 decision at Wisconsin in five innings.
The Badgers (21-10) plated five runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Blue Demon bats couldn't keep pace, mustering just four hits to Wisconsin's 11.
Junior designated player Nicole Sullivan was responsible for the Blue Demons lone run of the afternoon with an RBI-double to right field in the third inning. Sullivan was two-for-three on the day.
Brooke Johnson and Payton Viles also notched base hits.
Brenna Smith went three and a third innings allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. Katey Pierce entered in relief in the top of the fifth and retired a pair of batters and surrendered just one hit.
How it Happened
The top of the first saw Johnson and Sullivan reach on a pair of base hits, but nothing more developed for the Blue Demons behind the dish.

In the home half of the frame, the Badgers plated five runs on five hits including a three-run homer.

Wisconsin extended their lead to 7-0 with a two-run long ball in the second inning.

Johnson drew a two-out walk and came around in the next at bat as Sullivan sent a double deep into right field to cut DePaul's deficit to six.

The fourth inning saw the Badgers extend their lead to 11-1 with four more runs on four hits and a DePaul error.

Up Next: The Blue Demons return to action Friday, April 14 for the opener of a three-game series with Seton Hall at Cacciatore Stadium. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. CT with all the action on FloSoftball.
