DePaul Closes Out Homestand on Wednesday vs. Northern Illinois

Blue Demons and Huskies meet at 2 p.m. at Cacciatore Stadium
CHICAGO – After playing 10 of the last 11 games at Cacciatore Stadium, DePaul softball will close out its April homestand on Wednesday when Northern Illinois visits Lincoln Park for a midweek non-conference matchup. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. with coverage on FloSoftball.

About DePaul
After dropping a three-game set to Seton Hall last weekend, the Blue Demons will look to bounce back as the 2023 campaign heads down the home stretch. DePaul is 12-24 this season and 4-11 in BIG EAST games.
Catcher Anna Wohlers has led the offensive charge for the Blue Demons this season with a team-best average of .383 in addition to 31 RBIs an .813 slugging percentage and 11 home runs. Brooke Johnson has tallied 22 RBIs to her credit to go along with a .364 average.
Against the Pirates, Carly Alvers batted .500 with five hits including a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Also in the series, right-fielder Grace Frazier and designated player Nicole Sullivan belted above .400 with three RBIs apiece.
Katey Pierce boasts a staff-best 5.83 ERA in 36.2 innings pitched in 15 appearances. Right-hander Brenna Smith has been charged with the bulk of the work, throwing a team-high 85.1 innings in 25 appearances while striking out 39 batters.
About Northern Illinois
The Huskies are 19-19 on the season including a 9-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Last week NIU split a doubleheader with Valparaiso in the midweek and Ohio on the weekend before the series finale with the Bobcats was canceled due to inclement weather.
 
Offensively, Kelly Walinski and Caitlyn Shumaker lead the way for NIU with 21 RBIs apiece to go with 39 and 34 hits, respectively. Wallinski boasts a .355 average while Shumaker sits at .315. In the circle, freshman Danielle Stewart carries the load with 24 appearances and 96.0 innings pitched to go with an 8-8 record. Stewart has a staff-best 67 strikeouts on the 2023 campaign.
 
Christina Sutcliff is in her 12th season leading the Huskies program.
 
Series Stuff
Wednesday's contest marks the 66th meeting between the two programs dating back to the first meeting in 1978. DePaul holds a 41-24 edge in the all-time series over the Huskies including an 11-8 victory last season in DeKalb.

The Blue Demons will return to BIG EAST play this weekend, April 21-23, with a trip to Villanova for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT with Saturday and Sunday's games slated to begin at 11 a.m. All three games will stream live on FloSports.
