Blue Demons offense slowed in setback to the Wildcats
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The DePaul softball team opened a three-game series on the road at Villanova with a 8-0 five-inning loss. The Blue Demons were stifled to just three hits with all of them coming in the top of the fifth inning as the offense couldn't find its groove.
Â
DePaul (12-26, 4-12 BIG EAST) fell behind early and couldn't mount a comeback as Villanova (17-18, 11-5 BIG EAST) used four-run spurts in both the first and fourth innings to put the game out of reach.
Â
The Blue Demons looked to extend the contest with a rally in the top of the fifth inning as Nicole Sullivan, Tori Meyer and Grace Frazier all tallied base hits but we're stranded aboard with consecutive batters retired to close the door on any scoring chances.
Â
Three pitchers saw time in the circle for DePaul as Brenna Smith got the starting nod and went one inning giving up four runs on four hits before making way for freshman Abbey Pochie. Pochie went two and two-thirds, surrendering four runs, two earned, on five hits before Katey Pierce secured the final out of the fourth inning.
