Tori Meyer plates DePaul's lone run of the day
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Despite staying within a run through four innings, the Blue Demons were stung by a four-run fifth inning as Villanova claimed a 6-1 victory in game two of the three-game set on Saturday afternoon.
Villanova hung a run in the second inning before DePaul answered back in the fourth to tie the game, but the host Wildcats scored five unanswered in the latter stages of the contest to pick up the victory.
Shortstop Nicole Sullivan went 2-for-2 on the day while also reaching on a drawn walk, but it was senior center fielder Tori Meyer who drove in DePaul's lone run on an RBI-single to right.
In the circle, Katey Pierce went 4 and a third innings and surrendered five earned runs on nine hits while Bella Nigey made her first appearance since April 2 for an inning and two-thirds of work.
How it Happened
The Blue Demons saw their first opportunity to strike in the top of the second as Sullivan drew a leadoff walk before Alvers sent a bloop single over the head of the Villanova third baseman, but neither runner would advance as the Wildcats secured three-consecutive outs.

DePaul responded in the top of the fourth as Sullivan sent a leadoff double to right center and moved to third on a passed ball before Meyer drove her in on a base hit to right field to tie the score at one apiece.
The Wildcats threatened in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runners in scoring position with one retired before Pierce slammed the door on her first strikeout of the day followed by and induced infield popout.
Eight Villanova batters came to the dish in the fifth as the Wildcats plated four runs on four hits and a pair of walks to reclaim the advantage, 5-1.
