Blue Demons Travel to Michigan to Begin Dual Season

Assistant Coach Leo Hua returns to alma mater
ANN ARBOR, MICH. – DePaul men's tennis opens its 2024 campaign with a cold trek to take on the Michigan Wolverines. The match is to begin at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, Jan. 15 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Seven members of the 2023 Blue Demon squad make their return, with two additions in graduate transfer Laurentiu Mandocescu, and freshman Thomas Giles.
The 'Band of Brothers' looks to continue their momentum from the fall tournament season, spearheaded by Sven Moser's seven singles victories, complemented by Leon Huck and Mandocescu, each boasting five doubles victories.
Head coach Matt Brothers begins his seventeenth season as the leader of DePaul, joined by assistant Leo Hua who is set to start his first season coaching at the Division 1 level. The new pairing looks to guide the Blue Demons to their third BIG EAST title in the last four seasons.
Hua, a Michigan tennis alum, makes his return to Ann Arbor on Monday. Hua totaled seventy-five career wins at Michigan, in addition to being named 2018 Big Ten First Team All-Conference during his senior season.
On Monday, DePaul is set to take on the Wolverines for the first time in two decades. During the 2023 fall tournament season, Huck and Mandocescu saw action against Michigan's Bickersteth/Cooksey pairing in a doubles match on day two of the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament.
During the 2022-23 season, Michigan posted a 27-5 record with nine ranked wins. Michigan capped off its season by reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division 1 Men's Tennis Championships.
