Men’s Tennis Dominates Furman to Open Weekend

Blue Demons jump back to .500 on the season with win
WEST POINT, N.Y. – DePaul men's tennis opened its weekend of action with a resounding victory over Furman, winning 4-1. On Friday afternoon, the 'Band of Brothers' won their second-straight match against the Paladins (3-4).
The Blue Demons (2-2) jumped out to an early start, clinching the first point of the evening on a tiebreaker victory by Sven Moser and Shourya Verma on the No. 3 doubles court, 7-6 (8-6).
Leon Huck and Pablo Torres Almeida represented the Blue Demons at the No. 2 spot, beating Furman's Cahill/Westling in a 7-5 decision.
"With some guys out this weekend, we had to make some adjustments to our doubles teams," said Coach Matt Brothers. "We let them pick their partners this weekend, kept preparation light, and entered with very little pressure. They were just having fun, and low and behold, we came away with the doubles point," said Brothers. "Our guys battled through some adversity today against a solid Furman team."
DePaul continued its momentum into singles, with convincing wins on the No. 1 and No. 6 courts by Huck and Sven Moser. With leads on three of the remaining courts, the Blue Demons needed just one victory to come away with the dual win. Torres Almeida triumphed in a come-from-behind win on court 5 over John Rado (FUR), 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
