
Softball Heads to UConn for Weekend Series

Blue Demons set for first away conference matchups
CHICAGO - DePaul softball is set to take on UConn in their first road series of conference play. The Blue Demons and Huskies will meet at 2 p.m CT on Friday, 12 p.m. CT on Saturday and round out the series at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday. Friday and Saturday's contests will be streamed on FloSoftball. Sunday's streaming information will be announced later this weekend.

BLUE DEMON BITS
- DePaul sits at 6-16 (2-1 BIG EAST) after a series win against Georgetown last weekend. Three Blue Demons earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors, with Brooke Cwick named Freshman of the Week and Brooke Johnson and Bella Nigey being named to the Honor Roll.
- Johnson currently leads the conference in hits (31), runs scored (23), home runs (7) and total bases (60), batting average (.456) and slugging percentage (.882). The senior is riding a seven-game hit streak while ranking 20th in the country in slugging percentage and 33rd nationally with her batting average.
- Nigey appeared in all three games last weekend, earning her first conference win and save of the season. The sophomore owns a staff-best ERA of 3.28.Â
- Senior catcher Riley Pool ranks third in the conference in batting average (.377), second in walks (16) and sac flies (3), and is tied for first in caught stealing by (7).
- The Blue Demons saw a couple of firsts in the opening weekend of BIG EAST play. Sophomore Abbey Pochie recorded her first career hit while Freshman Lydia Ettema tallied her first collegiate win in the circle.
ABOUT UCONN
- The Huskies enter the weekend 10-11 (0-0 BIG EAST) after sweeping the Rainbow Whine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Junior infielder Rosie Garcia was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday while senior pitcher Payton Kinney earned a nod to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.Â
- Grace Jenkins and Lexi Hastings paces the offense for UConn. Jenkins has recorded 13 runs on 22 hits while Hastings has added 20 runs on 25 hits.Â
- Meghan O'Neil leads the Huskies in the circle, appearing in 15 games with an overall record of 2-4. O'Neil has thrown 38 innings, giving up 33 hits and tallying an ERA of 2.58.Â
- Laura Valentino is in her fifth season in Storrs.Â
SERIES STUFF
DePaul leads the all-time series, 18-5. In their last meeting, the Huskies defeated DePaul 4-3 on April 28, 2023 at Cacciatore Stadium.
