Softball Falls in Close Battle with UConn on Friday

Blue Demons drop game one in Storrs
STORRS, CONN. - DePaul softball dropped a close matchup to UConn on Friday afternoon, 2-1.
Bella Nigey (4-6) started in the circle, pitching her fourth complete game of the season. Nigey gave up two runs on eight hits while recording three strikeouts.
Brooke Johnson led the offense, as she hit her eighth home run of the season and the 34th of her career, tying her for fourth all-time in program history. With her home run, Johnson extended her hitting streak to eight-straight games.Â
Sophomore Abbey Pochie made her first start of the season and first of her career in the field, earning the nod in right field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Johnson got the offense started early, knocking a home run to left field for a 1-0 lead in the first.
The Huskies tied the game, 1-1. off of a pair of singles in the third inning. UConn then took the lead off of a hit to right center, 2-1, in the fifth inning.Â
Johnson was walked to begin the fifth, but the Blue Demons were unable to score any more as the next six batters were retired.
