DePaul opens season against Wisconsin and Princeton
MADISON, Wis. – DePaul men's tennis opens its spring dual campaign against Wisconsin and Princeton on Jan. 18-19 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis. The Blue Demons will face Wisconsin at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday and Princeton at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday.
"These two dates have been on the calendar for a while, and we've been preparing for this," said head coach Matt Brothers. "Wisconsin is always ready for us, and I'm sure they'll be even more motivated after we left Madison with a victory last year. These are two tough matches to start our season, and they'll be a really good test to gauge where we're at with our talented, deep team."
Six members of the 2024 squad return, bolstered by the addition of three freshmen—Andy Hadziabdic, Tobias Leitner, and Marko Milosavljevic—and sophomore transfer Quang Vinh Nguyen. Leitner led the new arrivals in fall competition with a 10-4 record, while Hadziabdic and Nguyen each posted eight singles victories.
"The Architect," head coach Matt Brothers, begins his 18th season at the helm and stands just 10 wins shy of 225 in his career. He is joined by assistant coach Leo Hua, who enters his second season with DePaul. After capturing the 2024 BIG EAST Championship and earning the BIG EAST Co-Coaching Staff of the Year award, Brothers and Hua aim to guide the Blue Demons to their fourth BIG EAST Championship in five years.
"From here, things really get rolling," said Brothers. "Next, we head to Dartmouth, which will be another tough challenge. I always make the schedule as tough as I can to test these guys, give us opportunities to rise in the rankings, and position ourselves for the best possible chance in the postseason."
