DePaul Defeats Mount St. Mary's in Five Innings

Morgan Rogers adds two hits and three RBI in victory
Bella Nigey got the start in the circle, allowing three hits and one run in the opening three innings. Katey Pierce entered in relief, giving up just two hits and no runs to conclude the final two frames.
Eleven different Blue Demons contributed hits on the day, and ten notched at least one RBI. The scoring onslaught was led by sophomore Morgan Rogers, who added two hits and three RBI, followed by fellow sophomore Kali Blount who posted two hits and two RBI of her own. Freshman Hannah Messer launched her first collegiate double and first RBI of her career in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mountaineers would strike first, with Taylor Williams coming across the plate after a single, bunt, and Blue Demon error.
Seniors Baylee Cosgrove and Carly Alvers began the game with walks in the bottom of the frame, and both would advance into scoring position on a passed ball. Kelly Beaupre logged a two-RBI double that would bring across Cosgrove and Alvers for the first two runs of the day.
From there, it was all DePaul, adding four runs in the third on behalf of hits from Blount, Lydia Ettema, and Chelsea Parker, and a staggering nine runs in the fourth inning, with Brooke Cwick, Bibi Rodriguez, Rogers, Alvers, and Blount all driving home RBI's.
The Mountaineers could not mount a comeback, with the Blue Demons earning the 15-1 victory in five innings.
UP NEXT
The Blue Demons travel to Butler to open BIG EAST play March 7-9. They will play one game a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at 2 p.m., 12 p.m., and 11 a.m. CT, respectively.
