
DePaul Drops Series Finale at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – DePaul softball (10-11, 0-3 BIG EAST) fell to the Butler Bulldogs (14-5, 3-0 BIG EAST), 14-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman pitcher Ava Gusel earned her third start of the year in the circle, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Kelly Greene entered for the subsequent inning, giving up seven runs on five hits, three of which were earned. Senior Katey Pierce finished the final 1.2 innings of work, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits.
Seniors Baylee Cosgrove and Carly Alvers tallied hits, along with sophomore Kali Blount. Cosgrove drove home the lone RBI for the Blue Demons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Butler opened the scoring in the first frame with a sacrifice fly from Makena Alexander, followed by a single from Paige Dorsett. They would tally three more runs in the second, after a wild pitch, and two-RBI single from Ella White.
DePaul would get one back in the third inning, with Morgan Rogers reaching on an error, stealing a base, and a single from Cosgrove bringing her across the plate. The Bulldogs added eight more runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by two hits from Leigh Vande Hei.
The final run was scored by Butler in the fourth, as Paige Lillie scored White with a single.
UP NEXT
DePaul hosts their home-opening series March 14-16 at Cacciatore Stadium, welcoming Seton Hall for three games. Friday's face-off is slated for 1 p.m., with streaming on BIG EAST Digital Network. Saturday and Sunday's games will commence at noon and 11 a.m., respectively, with streaming on FloCollege.
