Blue Demons Extinguish Flames Tuesday Evening

DePaul defeats UIC for second time this season
Six different Blue Demons logged hits in the win, including a pair of freshmen, Addi Burdick and Chelsea Parker. Parker notched an RBI double, the second double of her collegiate career.
Bella Nigey opened in the circle, her fourth start in the last five games, allowing just one run on three hits in three innings of work. Freshman Hannah Messer entered in relief, her third consecutive game with an appearance, giving up three runs on three hits in the final three frames.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nigey retired three batters in the opening frame, and DePaul then struck first, manufacturing one run after a leadoff double from Baylee Cosgrove.
UIC responded in the third inning, bringing Grace Fleming around the bags after she began the inning with a base hit to center field. Fleming worked a leadoff walk in the fourth frame, but Messer retired the next three batters to strand her on third base.
In the fourth inning, Kelly Beaupre was hit by the first pitch she saw, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Kali Blount registered an infield single with a bunt to push her to third. Another wild pitch scored Beaupre, and an RBI double from Parker scored Blount. Burdick and Brooke Cwick added RBI singles to mount a five-run advantage for the Blue Demons.
The Flames answered with one run in each of the following two innings, including a solo home run from Emma Gumont. DePaul proceeded to tack on five more runs in the sixth, including four walks with the bases loaded, to finish off the 11-3 victory in six innings.
UP NEXT
DePaul welcomes UConn April 18-19 for a two-day series. The sides will play a doubleheader Friday, April 18 beginning at 1 p.m., and conclude the weekend Saturday, April 19, with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. On Saturday, fans can participate in an egg hunt with DIBS throughout Cacciatore Stadium, and receive postgame autographs from DePaul student-athletes in Letterwinner Plaza.
