Blue Demons raise $1600 for Cal’s Angels organization

CHICAGO – After a weather delay that lasted nearly three hours, DePaul softball fell to Creighton on Friday evening, 9-5. The Blue Demons raised more than $1600 for pediatric cancer organization Cal's Angels, celebrating the fans and alumnae who donated with a postgame home run derby.

Bibianna Rodriguez added her fourth multi-hit game of the season, logging two doubles in three at-bats. Kali Blount also notched a double, her tenth of the year, tying her with Baylee Cosgrove for the most on the squad.

Bella Nigey got the nod in the circle, giving up three runs on five hits in five innings of work before exiting in favor of Ava Gusel. Gusel conceded five runs on three hits in 1.1 innings, dropping to 0-5 on the season. Hannah Messer threw the final two outs, allowing one run on a pair of hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Creighton struck first with a trio of runs, propelled by a Blue Demon error, singles from Ashten Pierson and Lily West, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Erika Perez.
DePaul got one back in the bottom of the second frame, with a double from Rodriguez, and base hits from Zoe Levine and Alexis Houge.

The Blue Demons proceeded to knot the game at three runs in the following inning, after a double from Blount, and RBI singles from Kelly Beaupre and Carly Alvers. A base hit from Lydia Ettema scored Morgan Rogers in the fourth frame, earning DePaul a one-run advantage.

Houge came across in the sixth inning to build on the lead, but six runs from the Bluejays in the final frame earned them a 9-5 victory.
