Men’s tennis continues early-season road swing in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After three narrow setbacks to open the 2026 campaign, DePaul men's tennis looks to break through when the Blue Demons travel to face Notre Dame on Sunday morning. First serve is slated for 9 a.m. CT at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in South Bend, Ind.
DePaul (0-3) has been within a point of the team decision in two of its first three outings, dropping 4-3 results to Cleveland State in the home opener and at VCU before a 5-2 neutral-site battle with ETSU on Saturday. The Blue Demons have leaned on a strong singles core early, led by Sebastian Medica, who is a perfect 3-0 this spring with back-to-back three-set wins at No. 5, and Augusto Pardo Cano, who holds a 2-1 mark with straight-set victories at No. 6 in each match of the Richmond trip. At the top of the lineup, Alejandro Gandini has posted two marquee wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, while Pablo Torres Almeida and Andy Hadziabdic have each contributed key singles victories during the opening stretch.
The Blue Demons have also shown promise in doubles. Gandini and Torres Almeida earned a tiebreak win on the top court against Cleveland State and were tied 4-4 versus ETSU when the match was halted. The tandem of Thomas Giles and Sven Moser stood even at 5-5 in an unfinished battle at VCU, giving DePaul confidence that a complete doubles point is within reach heading into Sunday's contest.
Notre Dame enters the matchup at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play, with home wins over Duquesne (6-1) and Western Michigan (7-0) and road victories at Yale (4-3) and Louisville (4-0). The Irish most recently dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Wisconsin on Friday in South Bend. Notre Dame's singles lineup has been anchored by Sebastian Dominko (12-3 overall, 3-0 dual), Kyran Magimay (14-4, 4-0 dual) and Perry Gregg (12-5), while Nolan Balthazor (10-4) and Peter Nad (9-4, 2-0 dual), bolstering a deep rotation.
In doubles, the Irish feature multiple productive pairings. Nolan Balthazor/Nick Patrick are 6-3 overall and 1-0 in duals, while Peter Nad/Luis Llorens Saracho have combined to go 10-7 overall including a 2-1 dual mark and 1-0 record at the No. 1 position. As a team, Notre Dame owns an 8-1 dual doubles record through Jan. 24 and has four different teams with at least four victories.
Under Callaghan Family Head Men's Tennis Coach Ryan Sachire, now in his 13th season at the helm, Notre Dame has made 12 NCAA Championship appearances, produced multiple All-Americans and captured three BIG EAST titles. His current squad will face a DePaul group that has shown it can play even with opponents across the lineup and will seek to convert that competitiveness into its first victory of 2026.
