Rodriguez’s walk off gives DePaul first BIG EAST series win this season
It was a balanced offensive effort for DePaul, with six Blue Demons logging at least one hit on the day. Junior Brooke Cwick led the charge with her pinch-hit 3-run shot in the second inning, her first home run of the season. Chelsea Parker hit her seventh home run in 2026, surpassing her season home run total from her rookie campaign. Catcher Zoe Levine notched two base hits in three at bats in her first multi-hit game of the season. Rodriguez also went 2-for-3 in the contest with a double to go with her walk off two-RBI single.
Hannah Messer got the nod in the circle for the series finale, tossing 1.2 innings to start before handing the ball to senior Bella Nigey in relief. Nigey turned in a strong outing, only giving up two runs across 4.1 innings of work. Kelly Greene came in for 0.1 inning, and Messer returned to close out the remaining 1.2 to improve to 6-7 on the season.
How It Happened
Georgetown (7–7, 1–2 BIG EAST) got the game started with a solo shot in the top of the first to take an early 1–0 advantage. The Hoyas then added on in the second with a two-run home run and an RBI double to extend their lead to 4–0.
DePaul (12–15, 3–3 BIG EAST) responded in the bottom of the second as Jolie Adams led off the inning with a walk and put herself in scoring position with a stolen base. A base hit from Levine put runners on the corners, and heads-up baserunning from Adams scored DePaul's first run of the day to make it 4–1. Freshman Addy Poe followed with a pinch-hit single and advanced to second on the throw to put two runners in scoring position. Cwick then delivered a 3-run home run to center to even the game at 4–4.
Parker led off the third inning with a solo shot to left center to give the Blue Demons their first lead of the day, 5–4. Designated player Lydia Ettema followed with a base hit and advanced to second on an error. A single from Levine scored Ettema to give DePaul a 6–4 edge going into the fourth frame.
The Hoyas were able to plate another in the fifth to trim thedeficit to 6–5 and struck again in the top of the seventh to make it a tie ballgame at 6–6, but the Hoyas left bases stranded to end their rally. DePaul was unable to answer in the bottom of the frame, sending the game to extra innings.
Georgetown retook the lead at the top of the eighth inning with an RBI single to make it a 7–6 ballgame.
The Blue Demons rallied back with two outs in the bottom of the eighth behind back-to-back base hits from Adams and Emersyn Coulter before Messer was hit by pitch to load the bases for Rodriguez. A knock from Rodriguez on her last strike scored two runs to walk the game off and secure the series win for DePaul.
