How It Happened
Game 1: UConn 11, DePaul 3 (6 innings)
The Blue Demons put two runners on with two outs in each of the first two innings but couldn't capitalize. UConn broke through in the bottom of the second, using two singles and a double to take a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies added three more in the third on three hits and a walk to extend the advantage to 6-0, then pushed the lead to 7-0 with a solo home run in the fourth.
DePaul's bats came alive in the sixth. Morgan Rogers led off with a double to right, followed by an infield single from Adams. Lydia Ettema drove in the Blue Demons' first run with a single to left, and after a passed ball moved both runners up 60 feet, Cwick delivered a two-run double to deep right to cut the deficit to 7-3.
UConn (12-22, 5-3 BIG EAST) responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the run-rule victory, 11-3.
Game 2: UConn 7, DePaul 5
DePaul (12-21, 3-8 BIG EAST) struck quickly in game two, as Parker launched a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Blue Demons an early lead. UConn answered with a leadoff triple and an RBI single to trim the margin to 2-1 after one.
Parker stayed hot in the third, hitting her second home run in as many at-bats—a two-run shot that scored Jolie Adams and pushed DePaul's lead to 4-1. The Huskies responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half, but Nigey limited further damage, stranding two runners in scoring position to keep it 4-2.
DePaul added another run in the fifth after base hits from Parker and Ettema, a wild pitch, and a Cwick RBI groundout made it 5-2.
UConn answered in the bottom half, sending seven batters to the plate and scoring four runs to take its first lead, 6-5.
Facing a one-run deficit, DePaul loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth but couldn't bring home the tying run. UConn added an insurance run in the bottom half to make it 7-5.
A one-out walk from Alexis Houge in the seventh was all the Blue Demons could manage, as UConn secured the series with the game two win.
