Blue Demons Eye Three Points in BIG EAST Opener Against Seton Hall

DePaul looks to earn first conference opener win since 2018
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer kicks off its conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 26, by going toe-to-toe with the 4-0-2 Seton Hall Pirates. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT, with coverage available on ESPN+.
DePaul Debrief
The Blue Demons battled back in their final nonconference match in crunch time, as freshman forward Katelyn Haiser delivered the equalizing strike in the 89th minute to draw Southern Indiana 1-1.
Leading up to the goal, DePaul's on-goal offense kicked off with Haiser, who took her first of two first-half strikes in the 15th minute. The attempt was thwarted by Southern Indiana goalkeeper Merrick Schwalbach and the match stayed even.
Six minutes into the second half, Southern Indiana broke the deadlock with a goal off a throw-in in the 51st minute.
Down 1-0 with five minutes remaining in the match, DePaul narrowly escaped being in a two-goal deficit. A strike to the back of the net from Southern Indiana was called off after review.
Re-energized, the Blue Demons found the equalizer in the 89th minute. A forward pass from Kristen Schwartz went sailing toward goal, where Danielle Fjeldsted and Haiser waited. Schwalbach made the initial save, but the ball rebounded off of Haiser and into the back of the net.
Scouting Seton Hall
The Pirates remain undefeated this season, though they ended the last two matches with a 0-0 result, first against Wagner at home and then at Hostra.
Before going 191 minutes without a goal most recently, Seton Hall's undefeated record consisted of three of four matches won by a goal margin of two or more. The only exception came with a 1-0 clean sheet against Drexel.
Seton Hall boasts five goal scorers this season, three of whom have scored more than one goal. Gianna Angelillo and Kileigh Gorman spearhead the Pirate offense with three goals apiece. Macie Mietz scored two goals this season and Brianna Azevedo and Nina Davis both notched one. Six different Pirates recorded one or more assists this season.
The Pirates' primary goalkeeper, Kate Kleinsmith, relented just one goal over five starts, managing six saves and tallying three clean sheets.
Series History
The Blue Demons and Pirates meet for the 20th time in program history on Saturday. DePaul holds a 13-2-4 advantage in the series, remaining undefeated at home. Last year, when the two teams matched up, DePaul defeated Seton Hall 2-1. The Blue Demons haven't lost a match to the Pirates since a 3-1 defeat in 2011 on the road.
