Blue Demons Host Butler Bulldogs Saturday

CHICAGOÂ - DePaul men's soccer will return to BIG EAST action and play host this weekend to the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday. Kickoff at Wish Field is set for 1:00 p.m.Â
Last Time Out
DePaul played its third double overtime match of the season and fought back from a 1-0 deficit to earn a draw against crosstown rival Northwestern on Tuesday evening in Evanston, Ill. The Blue Demons found themselves down a goal early in the sixth minute but managed to get a goal back. Freshman Jack Richards scored his first career goal as a Blue Demon in the 31st minute with assists from senior captain Harry Hilling and freshman Matthew Brickman. From then on, both teams were deadlocked with one goal apiece.
About Those Blue Demons (4-6-2, 1-2-1 BIG EAST)
DePaul recorded their second draw of the season against Northwestern and currently sit with four wins this season, seeking their fifth against the Butler Bulldogs. They are in a three-way tie in the BIG EAST standings with Seton Hall and Marquette for fourth place. Sophomore Istvan Wilhelms leads the Blue Demons with three goals and with Zach El-Shafei and Bryan Simons right behind him with two goals a piece. El-Shafei picked an assist as well. Senior captain Harry Hilling has notched a goal but leads the team in assists, along with freshman Jake Fuderer, who have each tallied three. Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Nuelle has tallied two shutouts, recording 45 saves on the season, with a goals against average of 1.03 and a save percentage of 0.789.Â
Scouting the Bulldogs (2-8-2, 0-4-0 BIG EAST)
Butler is still seeking it's first victory this season in conference play and sit at the bottom of the BIG EAST standings. Their two wins came against then-No. 16 Western Michigan and Marshall. The Bulldogs currently sit in a two-game losing streak, first to Georgetown and most recently to SIUE. Butler's offense is lead by Brandon Guhl who has tallied five goals and two assists on the season. He is followed by a pair of Bulldogs with two goals apiece, Alex Lehtinen and Jared Timmer. Lehtinen has three assists as well. The Bulldogs are averaging 1.33 goals per game and are bolstered by Gabriel Gjergji in goal with 35 saves.Â
2017 Matchup
The DePaul men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 road decision to No. 20 Butler on Saturday in its fifth BIG EAST match of the season. Butler struck first in the 10th minute as Brandon Guhl intercepted a clearance by DePaul's goalkeeper and chipped a shot into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead. DePaul had four consecutive chances to net the equalizer in the 70th and 71st minutes, but each of the attempts from the feet of Zach El-Shafei and Philipp Konigstein were deflected by Butler's goalkeeper. The Bulldogs scored an insurance goal in the 80th minute when Alex Lehtinen pushed a cross through the middle of the box to Guhl who slid through the six and tapped in his second goal of the night, netting his ninth goal of the season to lead the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons managed 14 shots in the contest with six landing on goal. Both sides combined for 14 corners, splitting the total with seven apiece.
