Softball Says Aloha to Hawaii Tournament Play

The 8-1 DePaul softball team will take on three opponents in Hawaii Tournament play.
CHICAGO, Ill. - After a 3-1 weekend in the Samford Tournament, the Blue Demons are ready to depart for their next adventure of the season as they take on the Hawaii Tournament in Honolulu, HI.
DePaul will face their first opponent of the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 20 in a 3:30 p.m. game against New Mexico. Two games will be played on Friday as DPU takes on Canisius College at noon and host Hawaii at 5:00 p.m. DePaul will face Hawaii one more time on Sunday in a 2:00 p.m. game.
Last Time Versus New Mexico
New Mexico holds the series advantage against DePaul 3-1 and also topped the Blue Demons in the last battle between the two in 2016 where the Lobos pulled ahead in the tenth inning to win 8-6.
Scouting the Lobos
New Mexico is currently 3-5 on the season after competing in the NM State and Hillenbrand invitationals. The Lobos have garnered wins over UIC, Creighton and UTEP.
Sitting atop the Lobos offense is Cameryn O'Grady, is slugging a .522 in 23 at bats this season. O'Grady has 12 hits, 10 runs, including three doubles, one triple and two home runs. She has also accumulated 10 rbi.
Prevailing on the mound for New Mexico is Kiana Spencer who is 1-2 on the season. Throwing a 4.20 era in her three starts, Spencer has pitched 15 innings, allowing 16 hits and nine runs with four strikeouts.
Last Time Versus Canisius
DePaul has won all four meetings against Canisius, including the last meeting between the two in 2014 with a narrow 1-0 advantage.
Scouting the Golden Griffins
Canisius will open their 2019 season at the Hawaii Tournament.
Canisius finished last season with a record of 12-35. The Golden Griffins return their leading offensive player, sophomore Kara Paradowski who hit a .299 on the season last year after starting in 40 games. Paradowski tallied 38 hits, 22 runs and nine rbi.
The Golden Griffins also return one of their top pitchers Emily Nicosia. Nicosia threw a 4.49 last season and went 4-14 in her 18 starts. She pitched 99 innings and allowed 119 hits and 86 runs.
Last Time Versus Hawaii
Hawaii holds the advantage in the series against the Blue Demons 7-4 and won the last meeting between the two in 2015 with an 8-0 mark.
Scouting the Rainbow Warriors
Hawaii is currently 7-2 on the season after competing in the Hawaii Paradise Classic and the Boyd Gaming Rebels Classic.
Leading Hawaii offense is Callee Heen who is hitting a .458. In 24 at bats, Heen has totalled 11 hits and 10 runs this season, including one double and five home runs. She also has 10 rbi on the season.
Standing out on the mound is Emily Klee who is throwing a 2.76 with a record of 2-0. In her four appearances this season, Klee has pitched 15 innings, allowing 15 hits and six runs.
