Blue Demons uses two-run sixth to claim victory in weekend finale

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – A two-run double to left center in the sixth inning from Grace Frazier was the difference as the Blue Demons topped Fairfield 2-1 on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Palmer Park Clash.

After the Stags scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead, the Blue Demons struggled to advance base runners before the sixth inning turned the tides. Anna Wohlers sent a leadoff double to left center before Tori Meyer and Nicole Sullivan walked to load the bases. In the next at bat, Frazier sent a two-RBI double to left field to bring Wohlers and Meyer around and put the Blue Demons in front headed to the seventh.

Freshman pitcher Bella Nigey slammed the door on Fairfield's comeback hopes striking out three of four batters faced in the seventh to clinch the victory, her fourth of the season. Nigey threw three innings in relief, surrendering just one hit while registering six punchouts.

Abbey Pochie earned the start, going four innings and allowing one run on five hits.
