DePaul earned a 33-point victory for the first time since 2021
CHICAGO – DePaul was in control throughout the entirety of Thursday night's, 92-59, victory against Prairie View A&M at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons never trailed throughout the entirety of the game, securing the teams first 30+ point victory since 2021.
DePaul (2-0) was led by a balanced scoring attack with five different Blue Demons in double-digit figures, including three who did so off the bench. Grad student Isaiah Rivera led DePaul for the second-straight game with 17 points, in addition to eclipsing the 1000-point mark in his career. Off the bench, NJ Benson contributed 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting with nine rebounds, followed by 13 points by Jacob Meyer. Layden Blocker and JJ Traynor rounded out the double-digit efforts with 12 and 11, a piece.
Blocker and Conor Enright also led DePaul with a game-high seven assists each, becoming the first DePaul duo to each have seven or more assists in the same game since Jeremiah Kelly and Brandon young in 2012.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Demons came out firing to an early 12-2 lead off buckets from Rivera, Blocker and Enright. To match the hot shooting, DePaul showed early intensity on the defensive end, forcing six Prairie View A&M turnovers in the first 10 minutes. As the first half wound down, DePaul went on a 21-5 run to end the period while holding the Panthers without a field goal for the final four minutes of the half.
Coming out of half time, the Blue Demons didn't miss a beat as DePaul opened the period with a three-pointer by Troy D'Amico. The teams defense remained strong, holding PVAM to just four points in the opening four minutes of the period. DePaul continued to steadily build itself as a three-pointer by Rivera ballooned DePaul's lead to 31 with 15 minutes still remaining.
