Blue Demons Fall to Bulldogs on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – DePaul softball (10-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) fell to Butler (13-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon, 7-4.
Kelly Greene started in the circle for the second consecutive game, pitching five scoreless innings, before giving up four runs in the sixth. Bella Nigey entered in relief for the final three outs, allowing three unearned runs on three hits.
Freshman Zoe Levine tallied two hits for the Blue Demons, now leading the squad with five multi-hit games this season. Fellow freshman Maya Wondaal tallied her second career hit, driving home two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Scoreless through three frames, Butler brought their first runner into scoring position in the fourth, after a double from Makena Alexander. Despite a wild pitch advancing her to third, two strikeouts for Greene would end the inning and strand Alexander on base. DePaul would follow suit, unable to capitalize in the fifth despite singles from Chelsea Parker and Levine.
The Blue Demons were on the board first in the sixth, with leadoff hitter Baylee Cosgrove notching a single, Carly Alvers laying down a sacrifice bunt, and Kelly Beaupre reaching on a fielder's choice. Designated player Lydia Ettema brought across the first run with a single, and Wondaal then brought Ettema and Beaupre across with a two-RBI single of her own. Levine capped the scoring for DePaul with a single to tack on their fourth run.
The Bulldogs immediately responded, with a two-RBI home run from Alexander, singles from Sydney Carter and Hailey Conger, and a two-RBI double from Ella White. Olivia Moxley stole home to conclude the 7-4 victory for the Bulldogs.
